About Icynene

Why Choose Icynene

Numerous Benefits

It´s Energy Efficient

Icynene doesn’t just insulate; it creates a superior air barrier compared to traditional insulation like fibreglass. When it’s sprayed in-between the rafters it expands and seals all gaps, cracks and conduit openings regardless of the size or shape that other forms of insulation couldn’t easily fill. Icynene provides superb insulation and acts as a highly effective air seal creating a draft free environment with long term energy and heating cost savings of up to 50% which means your investment will pay for itself in a very short time and will continue to save you money.

It Helps Prevent Mould

Icynene spray foam helps block airborne moisture from infiltrating the roof. In cases of roof or plumbing leaks, after the leak has been fixed, Icynene’s light-density insulation will dry, reducing the potential for mould growth. Once dried, it continues to operate at peak performance levels, this is a significant and unique benefit offered by Icynene. Problems related to moisture management are common amongst other types of insulation like fibreglass, these problems could dramatically reduce the efficiency of your insulation.

It Can Increase Your Home Value

Investing in Icynene will improve your EPC rating adding on average of between 6% and 14% to your property’s value making your property more desirable and energy efficient as per the government statistics, see below an extract from the ‘Final Project Report – An investigation of the effect of EPC ratings on house prices’, carried out and published on 17th June 2013, by the Department of Energy and Climate Change The results suggest that there is a positive relationship between energy rating and dwelling price per square metre. Compared to dwellings rated EPC band G, dwellings with higher EPC ratings have sold at a statistically significant price premium and the pattern of the results is consistent and plausible. As expected, the price difference increases as EPC performance improves. We estimate that, compared to dwellings rated EPC G, dwellings rated EPC F and E sold for approximately 6%, dwellings rated D sold for 8% more and dwellings rated EPC band C for 10% and A/ B sold for 14% more. When the sample is disaggregated by dwelling type, there are notable differences. The price effects of superior energy performance tend to be higher for terraced dwellings and flats compared to detached and semi-detached dwellings.

Easy To Maintain

Icynene spray foam safeguards against freezing of pipes which may burst causing extensive damage by leaks and flooding. Icynene spray foam completely blankets wires, pipes and conduits, thereby protecting them from the elements as well as rodents. However access is easily gained to any wire or pipe by the cutting of a small access panel. Icynene once wet, recovers very quickly when it dries thereby restoring it to full thermal efficiency, unlike inferior products like fibreglass.

It Improves Air Quality

Icynene products can actually help to improve indoor air quality. People with allergies, asthma and certain chemical sensitivities have often found that, in buildings with Icynene, dangers of respiratory distress caused by natural airborne irritants are reduced. Pollutants and airborne allergens can penetrate even the smallest gaps in other forms of insulation. Airborne moisture can also infiltrate traditional insulation, sometimes leading to mould, which releases spores and potentially toxic substances called mycotoxins. Thanks to the superior air seal created by Icynene, dangers of inhaling these toxins and irritants are greatly reduced.

It Keeps Pests Out

Icynene spray foam insulation does not provide a source of food or nesting material for rodents, squirrels, termites or other vermin. Its texture prevents the passage of rodents into your home.

It Reduces Noise

Just as Icynene seals against the transfer of air and accompanying moisture, it also helps to reduce the transfer of noise. Icynene spray foam is an effective air barrier, it sprays on similar to paint, expands into every gap and crack to reduce air leaks providing you with a more comfortable and healthier home. Its superior fit means it can reduce the amount of airborne sounds penetrating your home from outside noises such as air traffic, trains or noisy neighbours.

It´s Safe

Rest assured that Icynene meets code requirements relating to fire safety. Icynene spray foam is a Class A material with a flame spread of less than or equal to 25 (Flame Spread Index: International Building Code). The fire testing report is an independent fire test carried out by Heridean Housing Partnership to BS EN 13823:2002 and BS EN 11925-2 which shows that Icynene is effective in slowing the spread of fire and rate of heat transfer and has a smouldering effect on a fire. Independent third-party testing, confirms that electrical wiring is not affected by Icynene. Dangers of overheating were not found to be a concern during testing. It’s 100% water blown, no HFC’s (Hydrofluorocarbons), PBDE’s (Polybrominated diphenyl ethers) or Volatile Organic Compounds, all of which represent health hazards in so many other insulation materials.
